Strong support of the ICM 2022 in St. Petersburg by the math community, society and
ICM 2022 in St. Petersburg will increase the level of global cooperation and provide substantial support for mathematicians from developing countries.

Mathematics in Russia
The Russian school of mathematics has a long history and is proud of having had among its members Daniel Bernoulli, Leonhard Euler (who were the first Russian mathematicians), Pafnuty Chebyshev, Andrey Markov, Sofia Kovalevskaya, Andrey Kolmogorov, Israel Gelfand, Vladimir Arnold, Olga Ladyzhenskaya, Ludwig Faddeev.
The role of Russian mathematics in the world has been steadily increasing, as evidenced by the prizes and honors won by Russian mathematicians.
USSR hosted the 1966 ICM in Moscow. Since 1966, members of the Russian mathematics community have spoken 348 times at ICMs.
They have won 9 Fields Medals, 1 Nobel Prize, 2 Abel Prizes, 3 Shaw Prizes, 3 Crafoord Prizes, 3 Poincaré Prizes, 10 Salem Prizes,10 Steele Prizes, 9 Wolf Prizes, 9 EMS Prizes, and a great number of other top prizes awarded by international mathematical organizations.
